It’s nearly fall and today was my first day back at school, for my sixth year of college. Yep, sixth. I’m on the Van Wilder plan since I was a fashion design major, then a science major, then a psych major and now a journalism major, so you can certainly say I’ve taken the long road to get here. My style has also evolved from a little campus of Penn State (where one of the guys in my bio class dotingly called me “Manhattan” for dressing up) to yoga pants at community college, to full on Sartorialist-worthy outfits when I was at John Jay in NYC and attending fashion week, to yoga pants again at community college again, and now to every day chic.
Working on getting a degree in broadcast journalism also requires you to look the part, since you never know if you’re going to need to interview someone, be on camera, or meet someone important, and today’s outfit (I now know) had a slight malfunction, in that I seriously need a tank top underneath. Moreover, stripes aren’t really good on camera.
Still, I love this dress, it was an absolute steal, and manages to photograph somewhat well. It’s also one of those dresses that I could wear a million different ways–wedges, a fun belt or necklace, at the beach with sandals…but today I was feeling rather Parisian-inspired in my nautical stripes, red flats and pink lipstick, with my hair in a loose chignon and enjoyed day one, even though (almost) everyone else was in sweatshirts.
